Juan J. Medina Jr.
Juan J. Medina Jr. is a San Diego native who took boxing lessons at the age of 16 for self defense at the Irish Spud Murphy’s boxing gym in downtown San Diego back in 1990-1992. Throughout the years he trained to keep in shape and not forget the fundamentals that were once learned. For 6 years he had been a boxing trainer/instructor with the legendary Gutierrez Boxing Club of South San Diego. Juan has been a member of the USA Boxing Association since 2007 and is a level 2 certified trainer under USA Boxing.
He now trains and manages upcoming boxers at the Bound Boxing Academy. Today he works with professional boxers such as Pablo Armenta, James Parison, Jose Luis Araiza, Amaris Quintana, Anthony Salcedo, Anthony Mooney and numerous amateur champions.
David Gutierrez is considered one of the top boxers to ever come out of San Diego. As an amateur, he won several regional, state and national titles, including the 1981 National Junior Olympics. He reached the finals of the United States Olympic Trials, and came very close to upsetting eventual Trials winner and 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Breland.
Gutierrez had a successful professional boxing career and retired undefeated in 18 fights. His career ended prematurely after suffering a cervical ligament tear in his last fight against Steve “Lightning” Little, whom also later became the WBA World Super Middleweight Champion. He now has over 15 years experience training professional and amateur fighters with his father, Max Gutierrez, at the well-known backyard boxing gym, the Gutierrez Boxing Club in South San Diego. In 2004 he was selected as Assistant Coach to the Olympic Qualifiers in Brazil and he has worked with professionals such as 2004 Olympian Vicente Escobedo, James “El Chocolate” Parison, Anthony Salcido, Eddie Sanchez and numerous amateur champions. He now trains and manages upcoming boxers at the Bound Boxing Academy. Gutierrez is also an Attorney at Law.
Strength & Conditioning Trainer/Nutritionist/Boxer
Carlos Rodriguez is a San Diego native who has been boxing competitively at Bound Boxing Academy. Throughout the years he has been certified to train/coach in strength & conditioning and is a certified nutritionist. Carlos is a member of the USA Boxing Association and also competes as an amateur boxer who plans on boxing professionally.
